Lady Gaga took to Twitter - where else? - to share more details about her forthcoming collaboration with rapper Kendrick Lamar, “Partynauseous”, slated to appear on the MC’s debut album good kid, m.A.A.d city.
“I wrote ‘PARTYNAUSEOUS’ about Jakarta, and my relationship with that country. Wishing I could ‘get high with the enemy’ and make peace,” she wrote. (Could “Get high with the enemy” be one of the song’s lyrics?) ”Once @kendricklamar + I started talking about life + his forward thinking views about love + hip hop, the song became something more.”
Gaga refers to her sold-out June 3 concert in Jakarta, Indonesia, that was cancelled due to pressure from Islamist hard-liners, who had voiced objections to her show’s revealing costumes and suggestive choreography. “I’m so very sorry to the fans & just as devastated as you if not more. You are everything to me,” she tweeted after announcing the cancellation. “I will try to put together something special for you. My love for Indonesia has only grown.”
As for what the track will sound like, during a web chat with her fans on LittleMonsters.com, Gaga allegedly revealed that the collab will be “hip hop/pop with a dash of J-Pop… kind of a hip-hop trancy hybrid.” We’re horribly confused, and totally excited, about what that could possibly sound like.
The single will be released on September 6, the same day as the MTV Video Music Awards. So far neither Gaga nor Kendrick is slated to perform (Gaga already hogged enough of the spotlight at last year’s Jo Calderone-spotlighted ceremonies), but you never know - perhaps we’ll get to hear the duo perform the song together live on stage.
