So Chris Brown Has A Medicinal Marijuana Prescription…

I didn’t know Chris Brown is suffering from some chronic disease mentally or physically, that warrants a medicinal marijuana prescription. You learn something new about celebs everyday.

That explains this Rihanna cover art for Diamonds, and this tweet. Boy, these two are always connected around a theme. Or is that just the media?

So Chris Brown Has A Medicinal Marijuana Prescription...

Anyway, turns out that Chris Brown failed a drug test back in June in Virginia. Nearing the end of his probation, this could have been a huge set-back except that:

She [Judge Patricia Schnegg] said Brown produced a medicinal marijuana prescription card from California and that she had never ordered him not to use drugs, so the positive drug test may not have any impact. She warned Brown that while his marijuana use may be legal, he needed to be mindful of his public image as a role model to young fans.”You are not an average person who can sit in their living room and do what you want to do.” {Source}

I guess since the judge didn’t say don’t do drugs, she can’t really hold him accountable. O_o

Marina & The Diamonds’ “How To Be A Heartbreaker” Video: See The Steamy Clip

Marina and the Diamonds How To Be a Heartbreaker

Shower Bright Like A Diamond

Despite some minor discord between Marina & The Diamonds and her record label over the video for her new single “How To Be A Heartbreaker,” the clip has premiered problem-free. The Welsh singer-songwriter, whose sophomore LP Electra Heart spawned the Dr. Luke-produced “Primadonna,” is setting up “Heartbreaker” as her next Luke-helmed single, and this one might actually have a shot at cracking the states. It’s pretty much her most radio-friendly track yet. It was wise, then, to couple it with a compulsively re-watchable video, which features Marina flanked by six water-soaked Calvin Klein models showering in their underwear. What could be better?

“I had 100 per cent creative control over this video,” Marina explained to The Sun. “I was like OK, lets get six Calvin Klein models and put them in the shower and I’ll standing the middle in PVC.”

Legitimately a genius move. Watch the “Heartbreaker” clip above.

Alicia Keys Performs Brand New Track “Brand New Me” At iTunes Festival

Hear Alicia's Brand New" Track!

We like Alicia Keys just the way she’s always been, but if she wants to be a “Brand New Me,” more power to her. The Girl On Fire played a stirring set for the iTunes Festival on Friday, comprised of past hits like “Fallin’” and several cuts from her new album, including the title track and “Not Even The King.” But best of all, she debuted the brand new song “Brand New Me.”

Co-written with Emeli Sand , “Brand New Me” is a graceful piano ballad of the sort we know and love from Alicia. It can be found on Girl On Fire in November. Watch the entire set, or find “Brand New Me” at the 47-minute mark.

Celebrate Lil Wayne’s 30th Birthday By Revisiting His First Single “Tha Block Is Hot”

lil wayne birthday tha block is hot

At the turn of the millennium, the hip-hop landscape was littered with Lils: Kim, Bow Wow, Romeo, Troy etc. But only one has managed to endure in the rap game for the ensuing decade-plus. That, of course, would be Lil Wayne. Today is Weezy’s 30th birthday, and because age 30 marks the official end of youth, we thought we’d take a look back at Weezy at his most youthful: namely, via his first single and video “Tha Block Is Hot.”

His debut single featured Juvenile and B.G., and was released just days before his 17th birthday (!). And even back then, Tunechi was simultaneously schooling and weirding out the hip-hop world. Watch the video after the jump.

As you can see in the music video, Lil Wayne’s predator dreads were smaller and his skin didn’t yet look like an Etch-A-Sketch, but that distinctive semi-growl/semi-nasal flow was already fleshed out. The plodding, cheaply synthetic beat was typical of the utterly disposable gold-plated rap spewed forth by Cash Money and No Limit at that time, but Weezy’s sheer lyrical endurance and odd cadence cut through the bling-y bluntness (see: “It’s all good in the hood, but a lot illegal / Soon as you get it, hot SKRRT, there go them people / Break up the block and hit the cut by the corner sto’ / End up in Miss Taylor backyard, be quiet, she on the porch”).

While it only peaked at #65 on the charts, the title song to Weezy’s debut Tha Block Is Hot helped the album open at #3 and go on to reach Platinum status. (We remember it being a particular favorite of suburban high school locker rooms.)

Here we are 13 years later, and the guitar playing, skateboarding Lil Wayne has his own Cash Money imprint, where he has cultivated talent like Drake and Nicki Minaj. All while churning out 237 mixtapes (rough estimate) and commercial hip-hop classics like Tha Carter IV, and prepping his tenth album I Am Not A Human Being II for a November 13 release.

So happy birthday, Lil Wayne. Your youth may be officially over, but you still “like to dress in all black up in my residence / Ain’t got on no suits, cause we ain’t tryin’ to be presidents” - and really, not wearing a suit at age 30 is pretty much the ultimate goal of this circus we call life, so that’s a cause for celebration.

Leave your birthday wishes for Lil Wayne in the comments below, or on Facebook and Twitter.

Foxes’ “Echo”: Watch Her Court A Crash Test Dummy

foxes echo

She's No Dummy

Foxes has premiered the video for “Echo,” her first new song since releasing the Warrior EP (she beat you to it, Ke$ha!) earlier this year. In the quirky clip, Louisa Rose Allen frolics around town with a living crash test dummy. Things are going swimmingly for the couple, but then a home-wrecking female mannequin enters the picture. It is weird and wonderful.

As for the song, “Echo” is built on a bed of strings and piano crescendos, with the soaring vocals that we’ve come to expect from Foxes after hearing songs like “White Coats”. (The bridge here displays some particularly powerful vocal acrobatics.) The single drops on November 11, and should appear on her debut LP next year, but you can watch the video up top.

No Doubt’s “Push And Shove” Video Takes It To The Streets

No Doubt Push And Shove music video

Gwen & The Gang Work It Hard

On the day of their comeback album release, No Doubt have premiered the black and white music video for title track “Push And Shove.” Just to refresh your memory, the song serves as a promotional single for the LP, while “Looking Hot” is slated as the official second single, after "Settle Down." Now that that’s out of the way, let’s take a closer look at the vid.

Basically, Gwen Stefani and her No Doubt cohorts - that would be Tony Kanal, Tom Dumont and Adrian Young - cause teenager-like havoc by hitting the streets at night and dancing around. You know, these are the types of hooligans you want to throw a bucket of water on while they’re drunkenly howling on the sidewalk below your bedroom window at 2:15 a.m. Catch the visual for the Major Lazer- and Busy Signal-featuring track above.

If you’re still on the fence about picking up Push And Shove (out today, September 25), check out our full review of the new No Doubt album, where we declare no less than the following:

No Doubt now have a classroom full of children and side projects that extended Push And Shove's production by a few years. The slowly cooked results are spectacular: No Doubt's best album to date.

Now, would we lie to you?

Lil Wayne’s ‘I Am Not A Human Being II’ To Drop In November

Lil Wayne black and white

Out of nowhere - and just a few weeks after dropping his free Dedication 4 mixtape - Lil Wayne has announced he’ll be releasing his tenth (!) LP, I Am Not A Human Being II, on November 13. The album is his follow-up to last year’s successful and critically acclaimed Tha Carter IV, and the sequel to I Am Not A Human Being (ya know, his 2010 album that WASN’T Rebirth). The Weezy record is said to include the already-released singles “My Homies Still” and “No Worries.”

Nicki Minaj Promotes Pink Friday Fragrance On ‘The View’ In Hot Pink — Of Course!

Nicki Minaj The View

Today September 24) marked a major moment for Nicki Minaj as the Barbz continues “dominating every avenue” in her ever expanding empire: the official launch of her Pink Friday fragrance. The rapper announced her first stop of the day to promote her new perfume to fans via Twitter: “im up next on the view. and we’re giving away more vip packages for macy’s!!!!!!! go down there now! see ya soon!”. The newly named American Idol judge arrived in an eye-popping ensemble of blue and white leggings, a hot pink blazer and a matching pink police officer hat.

Nicki explained to host Joy Behar that she’s “more comfortable being kooky” and “less comfortable showing skin”. (We’re sure Joy was thinking, “I hear you, girl.”)

And just how has Idol been so far? Nicki says, “pretty good.” Of her fellow judges, the 29-year-old artist said, “I look up to all of them in my own way.” And while the Barbz had nothing but lovely things to say about Mariah Carey, she did call Randy Jackson “crazy”.

Minaj went on to share her excitement surrounding her Pink Friday scent. “As a little girl growing up in south side Jamaica, Queens, if anyone would have told me that I would have my own perfume one day and be able to inspire young black girls everywhere to go into Nordstrom’s or Macy’s to see their face staring back at them, I would have never believed it.”

Most surprising is that the ladies of The View didn’t bring up Nicki’s latest political verse in Lil Wayne‘s “Mercy” or her public support of President Obama.

1950′s INSPIRED PONYTAIL

photos + post: Kristin Ess

Golly gee, we love very vintage-inspired ponytail. This is what I like to call the “Barbie Pony” when talking to a client. It’s got a part, a little volume + some soft bouncy curls. This particular version is a very wearable one. If you want to get a little more dramatic, you’re welcome to put as much volume and curl as you want! There are a LOT of steps in this tutorial, but that’s only because we wanted to be as detailed as possible. Alright, here we go…

  1. Start with clean dry hair. If your hair isn’t perfectly clean, give it a little shot of dry shampoo! You can do a side part or a center part– which ever you feel is more flattering to your face shape.
  2. Make a diagonal section starting at your part and going down in front of your ear.
  3. You can see exactly where we parted here…
  4. and here. Now clip the hair from the front section up and save that for later.
  5. Give the hair a nice tease on top in your “crown area”.
  6. Smooth over the teased hair using the finer side of the comb so it doesn’t appear too ratty. At this point you can give the top a little spray if you want to!
  7. Now, put all the hair in the back into a nice, high, secure ponytail. It’s okay if you end up flattening out the teased bump a little bit because…
  8. You can use a tail comb to pull it back up. As long as there’s teased hair under there, you can get that volume back.
  9. Next we take out the front section. Take one side and drape it over the ponytail holder. Use a little spray to hold it in place if you need to.
  10. Use small bobby pins to secure the pieces you’re wrapping around the ponytail holder.
  11. Repeat the same thing on the other side. If hair falls out of this section or doesn’t reach, you can just let it fall and/or tuck it behind your ear.
  12. Curl all of the hair in the ponytail. I like to curl everything in the same direction on each side so that you get a pattern going, but you can definitely make a more messy curl if you’d rather.
  13. It’s completely up to you whether you brush the ponytail curls out or not. I personally like t0 brush them because the ponytail gets fuller and more bouncy.
  14. Check the back using a hand mirror and make sure it looks balanced. Give it a final veil of strong holding hairspray.

Good luck dolls!

Rihanna’s New Single “Diamonds” To Drop Wednesday

"Diamonds": Rihanna's New Best Friend

She’s no slacker! Just in time for Talk That Talk to run out of radio-friendly singles, Rihanna‘s readying another album to make sure that our ears don’t go Rihanna-less for even a matter of weeks. Elvis Duran of New York’s Z100 Morning Show has the honor of unearthing the sparkly first single from Ri Ri’s seventh album in as many years, called “Diamonds.” When asked how we’ll feel upon hearing the track, Ri Ri responded: “You’re not sad, or dancing. You’re happy… and hippy,” before getting more serious. “Diamonds” will be “very hopeful and positive” with a sound that surprises fans.

Rihanna went on to tell Elvis that she likes to keep ahead of the curve to keep giving fans something new to listen to.

A new Rihanna single is hardly as rare as a precious gem, but we’re still looking forward to a new set of songs from the island beauty when “Diamonds” drops early Wednesday morning.

Prince on The View Prince Joins Team Natural & Rocks A Fro On The View!

The elusive Royal One Prince made his way to The View yesterday and rocked yet another different look, to no one’s surprise. However, I don’t think we could have predicted Prince rocking a natural look! Almost didn’t recognize him there!

Prince on The View Prince Joins Team Natural & Rocks A Fro On The View!

Prince was on The View to discuss his music and his upcoming concerts, which will benefit the Rebuild The Dream organization. Having already played in New York and Canada, this next show will take place in Chicago, a city that has been under heavy news coverage over the past months. From multiple shootings every weekend (we’re talking at LEAST 30 people to the recent strike of teachers, Chicago could definitely use some love and support. What better way than to have a concert by the almighty Prince, huh? Check out the clip below:

In a new tour diary clip, Ora racks up more miles, tackling radio interviews, giving an acoustic performance of her single “How We Do (Party)” and prepping for her upcoming MTV Unplugged performance in New York. Leona Lewis Debuts Dubsteppy Dance Track “Glassheart”: Listen

Leona Lewis Glassheart Cover

Leona Lewis has had more than her share of “Trouble” with the campaign for her third studio album, Glassheart. Her first single, “Collide,” got caught up in a very public tangle of litigation with producer Avicii, and then the album’s release was pushed back multiple times. Now that the LP is finally secured for an October 12 release date, hopefully things will turn around for the diva. If the title track is any indication, Glassheart has potential to be massive. Head below to hear the song in full!

leona's gorgeous shoot for "collide"

5 Photos »

Departing from the melancholy melodrama of her Emeli Sande-penned, Childish Gambino-assisted lead single “Trouble,” new offering “Glassheart” is a dance-inflected tune that’s radio-friendly but not derivative, with production courtesy of Ryan Tedder (who helmed her breakout hit “Bleeding Love”) and Fraser T. Smith. Transcendent house beats on the chorus ground Lewis’ delicate vocals as she sings, “Promise that we’ll never fall apart/And I’ll love you with my glassheart,” before that euphoric instrumentation collapses into a grimy dubstep break.

Leona Lewis - “Glassheart”

We say “Glassheart” is an auspicious return to form for the 2006 UK X Factor winner, and arguably the first thing she’s released that could actually rival “Bleeding Love” for hit potential.

Scottish DJ Calvin Harris has already teamed up with a litany list of popular artists - Rihanna, Ne-Yo, Kelis and Florence Welch to name a few - and even his breakout US solo single, “Feel So Close,” became a massive stateside smash.

Unsurprisingly, then, the tracklist for his upcoming LP 18 Months is the stuff that pop dreams are made of and features all the aforementioned, plus major talent from the other side of the pond like Ellie Goulding, Tinie Tempah and Dizzee Rascal. So long as the quality stays as dizzyingly high as it’s been with his last few singles, 18 Months is shaping up to be the dance album of the year. Catch the full tracklist below.

NYFW EYES: BRIGHT OR BARELY THERE

photos: gorunway.com/graphic design: eunice chun/post: amy nadine

Such a contrast this season on the eyes of the runways of New York Fashion Week! We saw either really bright and fun washes of color inspired by the clothes or very minimal eye makeup that let the fashion have center stage. And… we were able to get the 411 from the head makeup artists at a few of the shows to find out exactly what they used in case you want to recreate the looks yourself!

BRIGHT EYES HIGHLIGHTS

  • Jenny Packham: Makeup artist Talia Shobrook layered Laura Mercier Eye Pencil in Midnight Black Turquoise over Midnight Blue all over the lid then set it with Laura Mercier Baked Eye Colour in Lagoon. That color is heaven! She then applied Laura Mercier Creme Eye Colour in Platinum from the crease up to the brow bone and finished the look with Laura Mercier Faux Lash Mascara.
  • Peter Som: Makeup artist Tom Pecheux wanted an ombre watercolor effect on the eyes and used his fingers to apply MAC Eye Paints for a DIY feel (these are our favorites). He focused the lighter version of the shade on the lid, the medium version on the crease and the darker version of the shade on the brow bone.
  • Nanette Lepore: Makeup artist Max Delorme used MAC Pro Paint Slicks by mixing Pure White with the colorful shades to instantly make them into pastels without losing any intensity and applied them all over the lid.
  • Donna Karan: Makeup artist Charlotte Tilbury traced MAC Lip Liner in Magenta (no that isn’t a typo!) on both the upper and lower lashlines then instead of mascara, she painted MAC Pro Chromaline in Process Magenta on the lashes. So cool.
  • Monique Lhuillier: Makeup artist Val Garland lined the upper lid with MAC Chromagraphic Pencil in High Def Cyan then followed it with a sweep of MAC Electric Eel Eye Shadow.

MINIMAL EYES HIGHLIGHTS

  • DKNY: Makeup artist Charlotte Willer applied Maybelline Eye Studio Master Shape Brow Pencil to fill in the brows then applied Maybelline Baby Lips in Quench on the lids for a glossy look. She then finished the look with three coats of Maybelline Volum’ Express Mega-Plush Mascara.
  • Victoria Beckham: Makeup artist Diane Kendal used the neutral eye shadow Maybelline Eye Studio Color Explosion in Caffeine Rush and instead of mascara, she drew a thin black line very close to the lashline with Maybelline Eye Studio Master Precise Ink Pen Eyeliner in Black.
  • Naeem Khan: Makeup artist James Boehmer used NARS Madgue Duo Eyeshadow with a couple coats of NARS Larger Than Life Mascara.
  • Oscar De La Renta + J. Mendel: Makeup artist Gucci Westman used Revlon ColorStay 16H Eyeshadow Quad in Addictive, Revlon ColorStay Eyeliner in Brown and Revlon PhotoReady 3D Volume Mascara for both shows.

Chris Brown’s ‘Fortune’ CDs Labeled With “This Man Beats Women” Sticker

chris brown this man beats women sticker

Unknown activists/pranksters/haters of physical CDs have adorned several retail copies of Chris Brown‘s Fortune with a sticker which reads “Warning: Do not buy this album. This man beats women.” You can see the DIY advisory label in the above photo, which was allegedly taken at an HMV in London.

While Rihanna seems to have forgiven Chris for - or at least moved on from - the 2009 assault (to which he pleaded guilty), whoever pulled this stunt clearly hasn’t. We’re guessing Breezy’s ill-advised new tattoo had something to do with the fresh dose of vitriol.
