The 15 Worst-Dressed Celebrities of 2014

Now that we're in the last quarter of this year (how is 2014 almost over already?), we can't pass up the opportunity of listing down some of the worst dresses and worst-dressed celebrities who did not know any better and went under the scrutiny of us discriminating public because of their cringe-worthy frocks and inappropriate styling.

Some are veterans to the red carpet, others are novices who tried their hand at becoming fashion-forward but failed miserably. So who made it to our 2014 Worst Dressed Celebrities?

1. Pixie Lott

Pixie Lott leaving Freedom club in Soho, after her performance in London on July 31, 2014

First up is British singer Pixie Lott in a gag-inducing, saccharine pink "dress". We don't even know if this costume can be labelled as a dress. But what's really offensive about it is that glittery heart detail that drew attention to the singer's nether region. Tacky!

2. Suki Waterhouse

Leather, metallic and leopard-printed fur in one outfit? No. Just no!

3. Shailene Woodley

We can't stop staring at this dress for bad reasons. The gravel-like bodice, the ugly inverted V at the middle and the matronly brown sheer details - Shailene Woodley looked like she's been dressed by a bunch of die-hard Abnegation!

4. Lena Dunham

Lena Dunham

Lena Dunham at the 71st Annual Golden Globe Awards held at The Beverly Hilton Hotel - Red Carpet Arrivals in Los Angeles on January 12, 2014

We're always up for bright outfits but this mermaid-inspired dress just fell flat. The dress didn't do anything to flatter Lena's voluptuous figure. But we guess this is a far better sight than her previous tiered look which is probably better suited to someone half her age:

Lena Dunham

On the other hand, Lena Dunham has hired herself a stylist for her book tour: Nasty Gal's Sophia Amoruso! We're hoping the high street brand founder keeps her away from every worst-dressed list on the internet.

5. Katie Holmes

Katie Holmes

Katie Holmes at the 'Charles James: Beyond Fashion' Costume Institute Gala in New York on May 5, 2014

Katie Holmes looked like she came from a Beauty and the Beast stage play and had a few drinks with friends before heading straight to this fashion event! The dress is an eyesore and her hair can stand a bit of combing.

6. Amber Rose

Amber Rose

Amber Rose at the 2014 MTV Video Music Awards at the Forum in California on August 24, 2014

We get it, the MTV VMAs pushes the boundaries of fashion. But did Amber Rose have to leave her clothes behind in favor of this chain ensemble?

7. Mayim Bialik

Mayim Bialik

Mayim Bialik at The 20th Annual Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards held at The Shine Auditorium - Arrivals in California on January 18, 2014

We can't decide which part of this dress is more offensive - the unflattering shape or the overwhelming lavender silk skirt? Looks like Mayim Bialik is equally confused.

8. Rose Leslie

Rose Leslie

Never, under any circumstances, don leopard print and lace. Rose Leslie learned that the hard way!

9. Rosario Dawson

Rosario Dawson

Rosario Dawson at Milan Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2015 - amfAR Charity Gala - Arrivals in Italy on September 20, 2014

We have trouble figuring out that circular contraption on Rosario Dawson's lace top. It looks like a giant dispenser, spewing out pleated fabric.

10. Caroline Flack

Caroline Flack

Caroline Flack at the Glamour Women of the Year 2014 Awards held at Berkeley Square Gardens - Arrivals in London on June 3, 2014

It's hard to get the LBD look wrong. But when you do, it means it's really, really bad. Caroline Flack missed the point of the LBD with this horrendous dress with an ill-fitting skirt and a tacky ruffled detailing.

11. Solange Knowles

Solange Knowles

Solange Knowles at the 'Charles James: Beyond Fashion' Costume Institute Gala held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City on May 5, 2014

Solange Knowles usually gets it right so it's a surprise when she came to a fashion event wearing this awful thing. The bubble skirt looks poorly-made. She could also use some fitting around the waist area.

12. Rita Ora

Rita Ora

Should we even explain why Rita Ora's neck-to-toe metallic ensemble made it to this list? This outfit made us crave for a burrito though.

13. Julianne Moore

Julianne Moore

The red carpet veteran is usually on-point but this one is an exception. It would actually look better if the waist area was a little more nipped-in and the designer did away with the shoulder draping.

14. Maggie Grace

Maggie Grace

Maggie Grace at the Global Green USA's 11th Annual Pre-Oscar Party at Avalon in Hollywood on February 26, 2014

This is a classic example of how NOT to wear a slip dress! Maggie Grace looked like she rolled out of bed and straight to the Pre-Oscar party.

15. Kate Bosworth

Kate Bosworth

Kate Bosworth at The Art of Elysium's 7th Annual HEAVEN Gala presented by Mercedes-Benz at Guerin Pavilion at the Skirball Cultural Center - Arrivals in Los Angeles on January 11, 2014

This dress looks like it took inspiration from mermaid fashion. The fin-like detailing at the top and the ruching at the bottom destroyed an otherwise stellar dress. Kate Bosworth could do better!

Do you guys agree with our picks? Which one is the worst offender?

Trend Alert: Unapologetically Sheer Lace Skirts

The lace trend is at its strongest in the recent years, and it looks like it's not waning anytime soon with yet another fashion must-have making its rounds. This time, the oh-so-chic community of fashion bloggers are going short with their skirt linings and going long on the sheer lace skirt trend. Mostly making use of guipure lace (or lace without the mesh), the trend has found yet another way to strengthen its hold in the fashionista circles. Here are five looks we pulled:

1. Sporty Chic

Lena of Lena Panda

Lena of Lena Panda

With the racerback silhouette making a huge comeback with the lingering Isabel Marant sporty fashion craze, it is no surprise that some bloggers would think of mashing up the trend with the romantic lace. Pull out a stark white outfit with a lace skirt, cropped racerback top and a blazer (in case it's still chilly). Finish the look with nude, white and gold accessories to maintain the crispness of the outfit.

2. Casual Stud

Nastassja of Panna Amore e Caf

Nastassja of Panna Amore e Caff

We love this casual outfit because it can take you from the office to a dinner out with friends. This outfit is comfortable yet still pulled together enough to work in, and is absolutely brimming with chicness - enough to meet your night life's standards. Give your casual ribbed sweater that extra oomph with a sheer lace skirt and studded pointed toe shoes. Polish the look off with earthy accessories.

3. Crop Top Vixen

Rose of Dadouchic

Rose of Dadouchic

We love the dramatic flair accompanying the black crop-top-and-lace-combo in this look (see huge furry coat above and the over-the-top accessories below). Go casual with a simple black top or a bit more sophisticated with a lace one. Play around with chunky, attention-calling gold accessories to create this perfect vixen look.

4. Spring Fling

Frances of Frances Cassandra

Frances of Frances Cassandra

This may not be lace (it's organza, to be precise) but it made our list anyway because pretty much follows the shorter lining skirt trend. More importantly, how cute is that floral print? Pair the skirt with a white cropped top, oversized braided hat, and some earth-tone accessories, and you're ready to go head-to-head with spring's prettiest blooms.

5. The Artist

Kefilwe of Kefi Vogue Styles

Kefilwe of Kefi Vogue Styles

We love how absolutely creative this look is - it not only played with the print-on-print trend but it also experimented with combining various textures. The look went absolutely nuts that it actually made sense, which we absolutely adore. Wear the lace skirt with a printed sweater and, most importantly, go all out crazypants on the accessories. The funkier, the more pulled together your outfit will be.

How to Style Open-Toe Booties

While pumps and sandals in stilettos make fantastic footwear choices, a pair of stiletto ankle boots or booties, on the other hand, makes for a more voguish and chic alternative. This is especially true with open-toe booties. Admittedly, open-toe booties provide more edge than other styles. The toe-baring design without a doubt gives off that mysteriously sexy vibe - showing just a tiny bit of skin without being too blatant about it. It spices up a look and makes it a tad more interesting.

You'll be amazed at how versatile a pair of open-toe booties can be. They go with practically any outfit, for any occasion, and may be worn at any season. We can't think of an ensemble that open-toe booties wouldn't blend with nicely. They look great with shorts, jeans, skirt, and dresses, even evening gowns. You can wear open-toe booties while rocking a casual look, and neither would they be out of place for a night on the town.

While open-toe booties are perfect during spring and summer, they're known to complement nicely with fall fashion, too. And, if your part of the world isn't that super cold during winter, we're pretty sure you can find ways to incorporate them in your sleek winter look along with a pair of cozy tights.

See the many different ways, occasions and seasons wherein you can wear a pair of the highly versatile open-toe booties. You'll soon discover that these snazzy shoes are actually a must-have in your closet.

Casual or Party

Whether you'll be doing some quick shopping or going to a cocktail party, open-toe booties will help you look great while engaging in these activities. They add some oomph to an ordinary pair of jeans and make a simple top-with-short-skirt look party-fabulous.

In Dresses or In Pants

Pants when paired with open-toe booties give off that tough-yet-sexy look, while dresses matched with open-toe booties is more on the feminine-with-an-edge style. Both looks are fab options and whether you'll choose one over the other largely depends on what style you want to channel.

Any Season

Spring and Summer

As opposed to the regular closed-toe booties, open-toe booties are more appropriate boot choices for spring and summer. The open-toe design that exposes a portion of your feet is breezy and more fitting with the warmer weather. If you want to go out in the sun in style, forego the comfortable-yet-no-so-interesting flats and go for a pair of the more alluring open-toe booties.

Fall and Winter

Fall is, of course, a good time to wear open-toe booties. While the weather isn't exactly warm, neither has it gotten too cold yet to start covering your toes. Open-toe booties would perfectly finish your fabulous fall outfit. Match them with your layered separates (top, jackets, cardigans, scarves) or wear your pair with a short, leg-showcasing skirt. A dress and a topper like the ones Katie Holmes wore below would also be a great choice.

If your corner of the globe isn't too cold during winter, you can wear a pair of thick and cozy tights with your open-toe booties. Tights are great additional fashion pieces to create that mod winter look.

Jennifer Lawrence Does Dior Proud in a Guipure Crop Top

Jennifer Lawrence has had her share of red carpet hits and misses since stepping out into the spotlight around three years ago, with the fashion police going easy on then-19-year-old up-and-coming actress since she was only starting to make a name for herself. At 19, the actress was cast alongside big names such as Halle Berry and Hugh Jackman for the X-Men series, but failed to get international recognition since her character Mystique required that she become unrecognizable onscreen. It wasn't until The Hunger Games was released in 2012 that Jennifer was catapulted straight into the Hollywood spotlight and into the not-so-loving arms of tough fashion critics.

In November of 2012, Jennifer hired the much-coveted stylist to the A-list celebrities, Rachel Zoe, who produced her first big moment on the red carpet at the 2013 Oscars. We're not sure if it was the gorgeous voluminous Dior Couture gown that Rachel Zoe dressed her in (or the fact that she tripped on her way up to the stage to claim her award) that blew up her red carpet moment to epic proportions, but one thing is for sure - Jennifer is no longer letting her style guard down. The actress arrived at the Paris Fashion Week for the Christian Dior show clad in none other than Dior from their Resort 2014 collection.

Jennifer picked out a guipure lace cropped top and matching wool pants ensemble for the show. The beautiful guipure lace top is echoed in the pants by running a lace strip down one leg of the wide-legged pair. Guipure has been a favorite of designers for the last few seasons because it lacks the mesh that usually acts as the foundation for the lace, making the patterns stand out on their own even more. This type of lace has been made even more famous when Victoria's Secret models Miranda Kerr and Candice Swanepoel donned gorgeous guipure dresses from the Australian brand Lover.

Jennifer Lawrence Proves That Lace and Menswear Can Coexist

Jennifer Lawrence has been making fashion headlines since she started getting her share of the limelight on red carpets in 2011, and she is making sure it stays that way. While the headlines may not always be in her favor, fashion critics have not been all that hard on her (after all, ring up all the red carpet moments of even the biggest Hollywood celebrities today, and you'll see that most, if not all, went through a pretty rocky start) since she is, after all, only 22 years old with a little over one year of experience with paparazzi frenzy since the release of The Hunger Games, the film that gave her the role that allowed her to break through Hollywood.

In interviews, the quick-witted actress occasionally shows that her seemingly overnight success has not quite sunk in, but she has definitely done a better job at faking it recently with her increasing number of thumbs-up-worthy red carpet moments. Jennifer was spotted outside the Christian Dior show at the Paris Fashion Week Men's Spring/Summer 2014; she was effortlessly exuding chic nonchalance (yes, there's such a thing) for the paparazzi.

Jennifer was spotted in none other than Christian Dior, being a patron of the brand for a number of her red carpet moments in the past three years. The actress sported a pair of charcoal wool pants from its Resort 2014 collection, which is not available for the general public yet. The wide-legged pants has a guipure lace detail running down one leg, echoing the gorgeous guipure top, and transitioning into two tones of blue. The other pant leg is pleated at the waist, allowing it to flow more dramatically than its counterpart. The wider pant leg also seems to have a pocket, which all purse-carrying women would surely appreciate, as shown in the picture below:

Because of its uniqueness, the gorgeous pair of Christian Dior pants could not be matched by any alternative that we could get our hands on. However, we conjured up some wide-legged finds anyway to ease our thirst until the release of the highly coveted collection.
