Sienna Miller stars as Tippi Hedren in HBO's The Girl

As far as iconic movie stars go, Tippi Hedren is at the top of the list as a 'Hitchcock Blonde' with her memorable performances in Alfred Hitchcock’s "The Birds" and "Marnie." Her off-camera relationship with this revered film director is the subject of a new HBO movie, "The Girl," starring another blonde actress, Sienna Miller, as Hedren.

This film goes behind-the-scenes in the making of "The Birds." During the filming, Hitchcock developed an obsessive and controlling relationship with his flaxen haired leading lady that is portrayed as basically abusive. The infamous details of this filming, including Hedren almost getting her eye clawed out by an actual bird, play out as Hitchcock becomes more obsessed with sculpting the perfect heroine out of Hedren.

Toby Jones, who plays the famed auteur, does a spot-on interpretation of the gifted director who offered a relatively unknown Hedren, a model at the time, a seven-year movie contract. Based on Donald Spato’s novel Spellbound by Beauty, this film reveals an obsessive power dynamic and the price of stardom.
