Fig wedding cake

I'm one of the few people out there who don't like regular cake (are you, too?), so I'm always secretly psyched when people serve alternative desserts at their weddings. Brooklyn couple Rae and Noah served a carrot cake with fresh figs! What a cool (and beautiful) idea, don't you think?

Vermont wedding: Rehearsal dinner

My dear readers, this spring, I'm excited to feature few lovely, simple weddings of my friends. First up was Billy and Fanny's city hall wedding, and now I'd love to share Gemma and Andy's amazing Vermont wedding. Here's their rehearsal dinner...

The night before their wedding, the couple hosted a BBQ at South Pond in Vermont. "I grew up swimming there," Gemma says, "so I was excited that people swam!" Badminton was also set up in the field nearby.

After a refreshing dip, guests enjoyed chicken, ribs and sides from the local barbecue restaurant Top of the Hill Grill, followed by pies for dessert from Amy's Bakery. (Yum.)

The picnic tables were decorated with vintage floral tablecloths from the 1950's that Gemma had thrifted. And don't you love the wildflowers in Mason jars? Such a pretty touch!

Tomorrow, I'll post about their wedding day... (Congratulations, Gemma and Andy!) xoxo

Wedding menus

Chelsea (of Frolic fame) has the best DIY wedding ideas, which she has been sharing on Project Wedding. She just wrote about how to make your own wedding paper goods, using stamps and a white pen. How simple and pretty do these look? (I love that fork stamp!)

Wedding first look

Michael was nervous to see his gorgeous bride Mandy, so when she walked up behind him, he initially couldn't turn around. When he did, he was so overwhelmed that he broke down in tears. How adorable is that?! It's amazing to witness how much love people have for each other.

Bicycle wedding

Pam and Joe are teachers in Brooklyn and didn't have a huge budget, but they put together the most gorgeous, heartfelt wedding. First they tied the knot at a neighborhood park, then rode bikes to a Brooklyn bar, where they'd had their first date. (Pam's biking secret? She wore denim cutoffs under her dress! Can you spot them, above?:)

Everyone drank beers and smashed a pinata...

...and they had whoopie pies instead of wedding cake.

Doesn't it look great? Sometimes the simplest weddings look the most relaxed and fun, don't you think? Congratulations, Pam and Joe! (See many more photos here.)

Although their ceremony was supposed to be taped for reality TV, the shocking news of their cancellation made many folks wonder why the two decided not to go through with their plans.

Many speculations were made on various websites and now The Game has decided to address those accusations via his Twitter along with some harsh words for those websites who were talking wreckless about his baby mama.

Wedding Attire

Given the time of year, it is not surprising that there has been an influx of weddings as of late. Finding a cute cocktail dress that will serve you at multiple functions without looking like you belong in the bridal party can be a time-intensive task. With multiple weddings on my horizon I took to finding my favorite wedding guest looks, all courtesy of labels made in the USA, which fortunately proved to consume less of my time than I anticipated and yielded extremely wedding-worthy results. Each lovely dress has its own distinct characteristics to keep you from being a wallflower in addition to carrying you well throughout your entire wedding roster.

Signature Drinks – Peaches and Cream

Colour coordinated Peaches and Cream Drinks for Summer Parties

White Peach Tea

This nonalcoholic option blends syrup made from simmered, sliced fruit with chilled white tea. Offer it to guests before an outdoor ceremony to help them cool off.

Ingredients - Serves 4

  • 1 cup sliced peaches
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 4 1/2 cups water
  • 6 bags white tea

Directions

  • Bring the peaches, sugar, and 1/2 cup water to a simmer over medium heat; remove from heat and let steep until completely cool. Transfer syrup and half the peaches (discard remaining peaches) to a food processor or blender and puree; strain through a fine mesh strainer, and refrigerate until cold.
    • Meanwhile, bring the remaining 4 cups water to a simmer over medium heat; then remove from heat, and add tea bags. Let steep for 1 minute, and remove tea bags. Let cool to room temperature, and then refrigerate until chilled. Stir the syrup and tea together in a 2-quart pitcher, and serve over ice.

Peach Rose Bellini

In a twist on the Italian version invented at Harry's Bar in Venice, sparkling Cremant d'Alsace rose wine is poured atop pureed white peaches. Serve it during cocktail hour, when sweet drinks go over best.

Ingredients - Serves 6

  • 4 ounces white-peach puree (sidwainer.com)
  • 1 750-ml bottle Cremant d'Alsace Brut Rose sparkling wine, chilled

Directions Divide the puree among 6 Champagne flutes (about 1/2 jigger per glass), and top with sparkling wine.

Peach Gin Fizz

Perfect for postceremony sipping, this concoction of peach nectar, gin, lemon juice, and sugar is both tart and irresistibly tempting.

Ingredients - Serves 4

  • 8 ounces gin
  • 6 ounces peach nectar
  • 4 ounces fresh lemon juice
  • 4 large egg whites
  • 2 tablespoons plus 2 teaspoons superfine sugar
  • 4 thin peach slices for garnish

Directions: Combine gin, nectar, lemon juice, egg whites, and sugar in a large cocktail shaker with ice. Shake, and pour through a fine strainer into 4 highball glasses filled with ice. Garnish with peach slices.

Peaches-and-Cream Martini

Thanks to ginger liqueur, heavy cream, and pureed white peaches, this vodka version is more dessertlike than traditional varieties. James Bond wouldn't approve, but guests will - especially after dinner.

Ingredients Serves 4

  • 12 ounces vodka
  • 4 ounces Domaine de Canton ginger liqueur
  • 8 ounces white-peach puree (use the blender)
  • 2 ounces (1/4 cup) heavy cream

Directions Combine the ingredients in a pitcher, and refrigerate. To serve, shake in a large cocktail shaker with ice, and strain into martini glasses.
